About

The Abersytwyth Digs Football League is based within the University, and continues to grow each year with more teams wanting to be involved. The league is run voluntarily by the Digs Committee who is elected at the end of the previous season by the Students' Union.

All teams have to go through the registration process, whereby all players have to register and hold an Aber Uni Sporty Card. Teams are randomly assigned into ONE of THREE simultaneously running leagues. After all fixtures in the leagues are fulfilled, the top FOUR teams compete in the playoffs.

In addition to the three leagues, all teams are entered into the Aberystywth Town Cup. The cup runs alongside the league and the finalists can look forward to playing at Park Avenue, the home of Aberystwyth Town Football Club, to show off their skills in front a stadium crowd.

If teams are knocked out of the cup in the Preliminary Round or First Round, they are entered into the Consolation Shield, which will have it's finals played at a prestigious ground, either The Vicarage or Cae Baker, home of CPD Penrhyncoch.

When all this is over, even more football is played on a one day event, the Consolation Cup. This competition is open only to teams finishing below FOURTH.

Registration & Cost

Registration forms will be available from the Aberystywth Football Digs League stall at the Freshers Sports Fair. Registration will then commense the following day at 10am, and will close 5pm 17 days later. Registration forms need to be handed to one of the officers together with League Fees of £180 (Roughly £10 per player for an average squad).

No team will be allowed to play untill all match fees have been paid in full.
There will be no lending of money from the league.

Each player listed on the registration form must have a valid Aber Uni Sporty Card Number, if not they cannot take part until they have one. Aber Uni Sporty Card Numbers are checked by the Sports Centre!

Venues

The majority of league and cup matches are played on the University's Blaendolau Fields located near Morrisions Supermarket. The Consolation Cup tournament is played on the University's Artificial Pitch located on the Penglais campus. This venue is also used on occasion for league and cup matches if the weather causes a back log of matches. The Aberystwyth Town Cup Final will be hosted at Park Avenue, Aberystwyth Town's Football Ground located near Somerfield Supermarket.
